Building a New General Practitioners’ Education Conference into a National Event

How Adflow Digital built awareness, scaled acquisition and generated more than 1,500 attendees for a completely new medical education conference in Australia.

Adflow Digital began working with a new General Practitioners’ education conference entering the highly competitive Australian medical education market.

The conference introduced a distinctive learning format built around focused 6-minute clinical presentations, allowing General Practitioners to move rapidly through a broad range of clinically relevant topics while maintaining attention and learning efficiency. This was supported by access to up to 53 CPD hours and an independent education program with no sponsored talks.

Despite the strength of the proposition, the conference entered the market without an established attendee base or significant brand recognition while competing against medical conferences that had been operating for years.

The commercial challenge was made even greater by registration pricing approximately three times higher than many established competing events. The objective was therefore not simply to generate awareness, but to identify and convert Australian GPs who understood the value of the conference’s differentiated educational model while maintaining sustainable acquisition economics.

The Challenge

Launching a completely new conference meant there was no historical audience of previous attendees to remarket to, limited first-party data and little existing brand familiarity among Australian General Practitioners.

Established medical conferences were already competing for the same audience, often at significantly lower registration prices.

Adflow Digital therefore needed to rapidly build credibility, identify the right General Practitioners and create an acquisition system capable of moving from highly targeted initial audiences to national scale.

The campaign also needed to communicate why the conference justified its premium registration price. Rather than competing on cost, the strategy had to establish the value of its differentiated proposition, including the 6-minute clinical presentation format, substantial CPD opportunities and a program free from sponsored talks.

The Strategy

Adflow Digital developed a performance-led acquisition strategy designed to progressively identify, reach and convert Australian General Practitioners across LinkedIn and Meta.

LinkedIn provided the initial foundation. Campaigns targeted healthcare professionals specifically identified as General Practitioners by profession, providing a highly relevant starting audience and helping establish early awareness among the people most likely to attend.

At the same time, Adflow built first-party audiences on Meta using visitors to the conference website. These audiences created a growing pool of users who had already demonstrated meaningful interest in the event.

Website visitors could then be retargeted while also providing the foundation for lookalike audience modelling, enabling Meta to identify new users displaying characteristics similar to those already engaging with the conference.

As audience and conversion data accumulated, campaigns were progressively expanded and optimised, allowing the acquisition strategy to move from tightly defined professional targeting towards reaching the Australian GP population at scale.

Building the Campaign

The campaign was built around the conference’s differentiated educational proposition rather than attempting to compete with established events on registration price.

Messaging consistently highlighted the focused 6-minute presentation format, the breadth of clinically relevant learning, substantial CPD opportunities and the independence of a conference offering no sponsored talks.

LinkedIn helped establish the initial pool of relevant professionals while Meta became increasingly important as website traffic, engagement and conversion data grew.

Retargeting allowed Adflow Digital to maintain visibility among GPs who had already demonstrated interest in the conference while lookalike modelling expanded reach to new prospective attendees with similar characteristics.

As Meta accumulated stronger audience and conversion signals, campaigns could be scaled considerably further, creating an acquisition engine capable of reaching General Practitioners nationally while maintaining sustainable performance.

The Impact

Adflow Digital’s approach transformed a completely new entrant into a significant event within Australia’s General Practitioner education market.

By combining professional targeting, first-party website audiences, retargeting, lookalike modelling and large-scale Meta distribution, the acquisition strategy overcame both limited initial brand recognition and a registration price considerably higher than established alternatives.

Rather than competing on price, the campaign consistently reached General Practitioners who valued the conference’s differentiated proposition: focused 6-minute clinical presentations, substantial CPD opportunities, independent medical education and a program without sponsored talks.

The result was the successful acquisition of more than 1,500 attendees and the establishment of a new General Practitioners’ education conference as a credible national event within the Australian medical education market.

Key Results

During the campaign period, the conference attracted 1,500+ General Practitioner attendees, including 1,250+ in-person attendees and a further 250+ online participants. Despite the conference charging substantially more than many established competitors, Adflow Digital maintained an exceptionally efficient acquisition cost while the overall campaign generated approximately 4x ROAS.
